Behaviour Consultations
"All behaviour is communication, and has a cause. . I find it, and we change it without fear or force"
Most horse lovers want to understand their horse, to have a true partnership based on trust where both parties benefit.
Unfortunately, many don't know how to achieve this.
Using the science of behaviour I can help you to truly understand the underlying causes and function of a behaviour from an environmental, physiological and cognitive perspective. This will help you to identify areas that cause stress within your horse's everyday life, and reduce this to maximize their potential.
From here you will learn how to shape behaviour effectively and ethically, using positive reinforcement based techniques where possible. This will create motivation, enthusiasm and promote problem solving within your horse, allowing them to choose to perform the desirable behaviour rather than suppressing the undesirable.
Consultations aim at resolving the cause of the behaviour rather than just masking the symptoms.
The highest standard of welfare is always maintained by meeting the horse's natural needs, training positively and avoiding aversive techniques.

Do I Need One?
If your horse is showing any abnormal behaviour such as aggression, fearfulness, not loading, ridden and handling problems, stereotypies such as wind sucking, or anything else that is effecting his quality of life or your relationship with him then you should enquire about a behaviour consultation.
This will allow the problem to accurately identified and a suitable modification programme to be created.

What to Expect
Cases begin with the initial consultation, which 2 hours should be allowed for. This includes an in depth history taking of your horse and his problem in order to build a detailed understanding of the issue. From here a personalised plan will be created and the first few steps will be put in place to begin resolving the problem. You will need a private area to sit and discuss your horse for this stage of the consultation.

Veterinary Referral
I only work under veterinary referral to ensure any behaviours do not have medical causality.
This is usually a free service offered by your vet. Please make sure your horse is registered at a vet and have your vet's details ready when you book your consultation. Once I receive your details back I will send a referral form to your vet, the process is usually hassle free.
